Leaked: Microsoft Edge foray into Web3 Wallet

Microsoft is reportedly testing a new feature for its Edge browser that would allow users to integrate Web3 wallets.
In a Twitter thread, Albacore (software documenter and occasional info leaker) revealed screenshots of Microsoft’s Edge new design with a built-in Web3 Wallet for Crypto and NFTs.

The Microsoft Edge Web3 Wallet appears to be non-custodial with Microsoft not having any access to keys or seed phrases. The wallet will also support swaps, purchases, and transfer with the integration of coinbase and web3 infrastructure provider moonpay displayed as integrated “platforms that help you purchase and deposit crypto to your wallet.”

While NFTs UI has a completely different design mentioning “browse different marketplaces to find your first NFT, as you build your collection of NFTs, we’ll organize them here.”

Furthermore, Microsoft’s reported testing of Edge browser Web3 wallet integration could help to overcome this barrier by making it easier for users to access and use their Web3 wallets. If the feature is successful, it could encourage more people to adopt Web3 technologies and use cryptocurrencies for everyday transactions.

Microsoft has not yet made an official announcement about the Web3 wallet integration feature. However, reports suggest that the company is currently testing the feature with a select group of users. If the testing is successful, the feature could be rolled out to all Edge browser users in the near future.

Microsoft and Web3 Journey

The integration of Web3 wallets into the Edge browser would be a significant development for Microsoft and the broader Web3 community. It would bring Web3 technologies closer to mainstream adoption and could help to drive the growth of the Web3 ecosystem.

Moreover, this move by Microsoft is not entirely surprising given the company’s recent interest in blockchain and cryptocurrencies. Earlier this year, the company announced that it had developed a decentralized identity solution on the Bitcoin blockchain. This solution, known as ION, aims to provide users with greater control over their personal data and identity.

Microsoft has also been experimenting with blockchain technology in other areas, such as supply chain management and digital identity verification. With the reported testing of Edge browser Web3 wallet integration, it is clear that Microsoft sees potential in the future of Web3 technologies and is actively working to support their adoption.
